On March 19, 2010, the USCIS announced revised filing instructions and addresses for applicants filing an I-131, the Application for Travel Document.
Beginning March 19, 2010 applicants will have to file their applications at the USCIS Vermont Service Center or at one of the USCIS Lockbox facilities.
If you file the I-131 at the wrong location, the USCIS Service Centers will forward it to the USCIS Lockbox facilities for 30 days, until Monday, April 19, 2010. After April 19, 2010, incorrectly filed applications will be returned to the applicant, with a note to send the application to the correct location.

This is my third EAD renewal. My 485 is pending at NSC. I am in CA. All my previous EADs/APs etc were filed at NSC.
This time when my EAD renewal is filed (by my new attorney, in new company) I got receipt Number starting with MSC.
Who decides where to file MSC? What's the criteria to file at MSC? Shouldn't it be file at NSC?
Is this a mistake?

Hi,
Am on H4 and applied for H1B in May 2006. Because of emergency, we need to travel out of US; got the approval on Sept 7th and returned to US on Sept 10th. I lost hopes of Change of Status petition approval(as one of my friend's COS petetion is rejected eventhough she didnot leave US during H1 process), but surprisingly when I received my papers today, it is approved with old I-94 number. Thank God.
Now, Can I go ahead and apply for SSN. Can they ask me to go for stamping as the I-94 on the approval notice is different from the current I-94 in the passport?

The early retirement of US Senator Mel Martinez (R-FL) has opened up an appointment opportunity for Governor Charlie Crist, himself a candidate for Martinez's seat. Crist will likely not appoint himself and a number of names are circulating for potential replacements. According to Politico, one person being considered is Jacksonville-area State Representative Jennifer Carroll. Carroll would be the first black female Republican Senator if she were selected. I am happy to write that today I received my first emailed receipt notice for a FY 2010 H-1B application and that then, about 5 hours later, I received an emailed approval notice in the same case. The I-129 was a U.S. Masters Cap case that was premiumed processed with the Vermont Service Center.
I will update this site as I receive word on my other FY 2010 H-1B cap cases.

President Barack Obama will gather congressional leaders at the White House next month to launch a policy discussion on immigration, according to an administration official, but legislative action isn't likely until next year at the earliest. he June 8 meeting is meant to show the White House is moving on the issue -- which is key for Hispanic advocacy groups that helped Mr. Obama get elected in November.
Mr. Obama has embraced the general concept of creating a program to provide a path to citizenship for illegal immigrants already in the U.S., while continuing to tighten the border with Mexico.

Yes, this can be done. The H-1 company needs to submit a new I-129 petition requesting a change of status for your brother. Alternatively, your brother can leave the US, apply for an H-1 visa and re-enter in H status.
